Despite of cancelling it’s pre-opening festivities because of the landfall of typhoon Mitag, South Korea’s largest film festival, the Busan International Film Festival has pushed through.
On Wednesday, the festival spokesperson sent out a statement via email as per Variety.
“We inform that the opening event that was set to take place Wednesday (Oct. 2) 6pm has been canceled, as an advance special typhoon statement has been issued due to the effect of typhoon Mitag,” the email said.
“We therefore, for the safety of our audiences and guests, inform that we have decided to cancel the event.”
Last year, the festival was also visited by a typhoon causing for a relocation of some of its outdoor events.
This year’s Busan International Film Festival will be running from October 3 until October 12. Jung Woo Sung and Honey Lee, a former Miss Korea, are the emcees for the ceremony.
The festival started with a choir of children that awed the audience.
The star studded red carpet of the festival had personalities such as Jo Yeo Jeong, Jung Hae In, girl group Girls Generation’s YoonA, Kim Bo Sung, boy group EXO’s Suho and Kim Eui Sung among others.
Musicians A.R Rahman and Timothee Chalamet are also expected to grace the Busan International Film Festival.
