Nellys Pimentel of Puerto Rico is the new Miss Earth. The pageant was held at The Cove in Okada Manila, on Saturday, October 26.
Pimentel was crowned by Miss Earth 2018 Phuong Khanh Nguyen of Vietnam, she bested 84 other candidates in the pageant.
Accordingly, Pimentel was a crowd favorite and during the Q&A she answered a question about how she would convince those who wouldn’t believe in climate change that it is a serious problem.
“I would have to say that addressing this issue of people not believing in climate change is more of a matter of lack of education and not only a lack of education but also the ignorance and not wanting to inform themselves of the fact that we are living in a planet that is our biggest home, and we have taken advantage of it instead of putting back what is giving to us,” Nellys Pimentel confidently states.
“Making notable leaders and a lot of influencers engage with themselves and become better people is the most important thing to do,” Pimentel continued.
Meanwhile, Philippine candidate Janelle Tee failed to make it to the top 10 after landing a spot in the top 20.
Those who are in the top 10 are: Czech Republic, Poland, Nigeria, Belarus, Chile, Netherlands, USA, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Russia.
The theme for the 19th year of Miss Earth is “Flower Power.” International singing sensation, Shontelle is one of the judges and the featured performer during the prestigious night.
