Selena Gomez just released a new single entitled “Lose You To Love Me” from her upcoming third album. The Disney star may not have addressed it directly but it seems that she is singing about being done with a toxic relationship.
Apparently, the new song from the 27 year old talks about a partner who “got off on the hurting” primarily while Gomez seeing it from her “rose colored glasses.”
According to People, some verses from the song alludes to Selena’s on and off relationship with her ex boyfriend Justin Bieber.
The verse “Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn,” is rumored to be a reference to Bieber’s 2015 album “Purpose.”
“We’d always go into it blindly, I needed to lose you to find me. This dance it was killin’ me softly,” the chorus says.
Reportedly, the video for “Lose You To Love Me” was shot on an iPhone 11 Pro and was directed by Sophie Muller. Selena Gomez is seen baring all her emotions -sadness, anger, joy and ultimately freedom, into the camera.
“I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life,” Selena Gomez states.
“Lose You To Love Me” was cowritten by Gomez with Finneas O’Connell and Julia Michaels.
According to Vulture, the song has set the record for most pre-saves on Spotify.
In addition to, Gomez had undergone mental health issues, a kidney transplant and two breakups all within last year.
“This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself,” Selena Gomez declares.
