“The Irishman” is a new Netflix crime drama movie directed by Martin Scorsese and top billed by Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro. The film has apparently received critical acclaim before it was even released on November 1.

The film is written by Steven Zaillian and is reportedly based on the 2004 nonfiction “I Heard You Paint Houses” by Charles Brandt. “The Irishman” is the name given to Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro) as he allegedly recounts how he worked as a hitman to the Bufalino crime family.

According to Irish Central, Variety and The New York Times had high praises for the film. They thought the Scorsese film was “a majestic Mob epic with ice in its veins” and the the film was likable to a Rembrandt painting respectively.

“An epic gangster drama that earns its extended runtime, ‘The Irishman’ finds Martin Scorsese revisiting familiar themes to poignant, funny and profound effect,” a review on Rotten Tomatoes said.

“There’s so many details that come out, that you just say, that’s real,” De Niro said about being in the film.

Scorsese delved deeper into Frank Sheeran’s life as a hitman, a job which had him kill as many as 25 people.

According to Extra, the $159 million movie was backed by Netflix because other studios stepped back at the cost of putting out materials to transform De Niro, Pacino and Pesci into the younger forms of themselves.

When asked about how he feels about seeing a younger version of him on screen, De Niro answered, “I used to joke, it’ll add 30 years to my career, I have no complaints!”

“The Irishman” will be screened in some theaters on November 1 and it will be released on Netflix on November 27.
