Versace and “Hustlers” actress Jennifer Lopez stole the show during the Versace Spring 2020 fashion show at Milan Fashion Week.
However, the infamous green dress she wore has been worn by several women before her already. Harper’s Bazaar reported that Donatella Versace herself designed the special dress that turned J. Lo into the most searched item way back year 2000, but she was also the one who wore it first before Lopez.
The younger Versace sibling wore the prototype of the green dress during the Met Gala in December of 1999. The dress was also worn by Spice Girl Geri Halliwell during the first NRJ Music Awards held at Cannes, France.
High Snobiety reported that J. Lo wearing the green Versace dress “didn’t break the internet, it built it.”
J. Lo wearing that dress way back 2000 had people searching the internet for photos of the dress, pushing Google to create the “Image Search” feature, as per the Google CEO during that year, Eric Schmidt.
“At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J. Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born,” Schmidt stated.
More than a runway hullabaloo, Jennifer Lopez wearing the updated version of the infamous green dress she wore two decades earlier was also a huge marketing stint. Lopez is apparently in the middle of promoting her new movie “‘Hustlers” and taking part in that memorable moment for the fashion industry was icing on the cake.
“Hustlers” was released on September 7. Lopez starred alongside Julia Stiles, Constance Wu, Lili Reinhart, Cardi B and Lizzo among others.
